Safety razors, shaving soap, and double-edge blades – How do you use them?
In the past, it was very common to use a safety razor, and everyone knew how to handle it. These days, the safety razor is slowly making a comeback thanks to its sustainable nature, but for many people, it’s still a mystery—or at least quite intimidating—to figure out how to use a safety razor with its double-edge blades correctly and, above all, safely (!). Step 1: How do you prepare your safety razor for use?
1. Hold the razor head by its two short sides and unscrew the handle completely. The head consists of two parts that will come apart.
2. Carefully insert a double-edge razor blade between the two parts of the head (with either side facing up). Warning: the blade is sharper than it looks!
3. Hold the head firmly by the two short sides and screw the handle back on. You're all set!

Step 2: Prepare the area you want to shave
A safety razor is suitable for both men and women. That means you can use it all over your body! Once your safety razor is ready for use after step 1, wet the shaving soap and apply it to your skin. Do you have very sensitive skin? If so, it’s best to use warm water. At this point, it’s worth briefly discussing the differences in usage for men and women:
Women (ladies first)
If you're a woman who's used to shaving foam in a can, shaving with a bar of natural shaving soap might seem like a world of difference. But actually, it’s not that different at all. You can wet the shaving bar between your hands and apply the lather with your hands. But it’s even easier to wet your skin and glide the shaving bar directly over your skin!
Men
Although many men also use shaving foam, it’s becoming much more common for you to use solid shaving soap. Our shaving bars are no different! Find a small bowl to place the shaving bar in, add a little water, and work the soap into a lather by swirling your shaving brush over it.
Are you used to shaving with shaving cream? Wet the shaving soap between your hands and apply it (using your hands or the soap itself) to your skin.

Step 3: Shaving Tips!
1. The best angle for a safety razor is when you hold it at about a 30-degree angle to your skin. It might sound complicated, but it’s actually pretty much the same as using a disposable razor. Just remember that a safety razor cuts on both sides!
2. Your sustainable razor works best when you move it across your skin in short strokes. What “short” means varies from person to person, so be sure to experiment to find what feels right for you. The trick to shaving is to hold your safety razor loosely. So be sure not to press too hard!
3. You can hold a disposable razor under the tap for a moment during and after shaving to clean it. Try rinsing your safety razor every now and then after shaving, while loosening it slightly (or taking it apart). This will also help your blades last even longer!
