Zinc oxide sunscreen?

What is Zinc Oxide sunscreen?
Lately, the term Zinc Oxide is coming up more and more often when talking about sustainable and natural ingredients in sunscreens. But what is it and why is our Sun Block a Zinc Oxide sunscreen? We have this all figured out for you so be sure to read on!
What is Zinc Oxide?
Zinc oxide is a mineral in the form of a white/yellow powder, with the formula ZnO. It is also often referred to as "Zinc" when talking about this substance. It is created by the combustion of Zinc and has several uses. As a result, it is used in many products, including, therefore, products for the skin.
How does Zinc Oxide work for the skin?
Many manufacturers use Zinc Oxide in their skin care products because of its many positive properties. Zinc protects, soothes and cools the skin. It can even have a drying effect! But the way zinc works also depends on the purpose of the product and the combination of ingredients. For conditions such as eczema or cold sores, there is cream with zinc oxide which acts as a soothing and conditioning agent. Did you know that it is also often found in baby buttocks cream because it has a cooling effect and quiets itching?
Zinc oxide as a sunscreen
Another, important property of Zinc is that it reflects, splits and diffuses UV rays. It protects you from both UVA and UVB radiation. This is very important because you avoid sunburn and premature aging of the skin! These good properties make zinc oxide enormously suitable as the protective agent in mineral sunscreens!
Because both rays cause damage, it is recommended to use a sunscreen year-round. For this purpose, a mineral sunscreen with Zinc Oxide as a protective substance is perfect. This is because you are protected against both Uv rays!
Also, zinc oxide sunscreen does not soak into the skin, but applies a protective layer on top of the skin which protects you immediately. This is in contrast to chemical sunscreens, which have to soak into the skin and therefore can take up to half an hour before you are truly protected from the sun. As icing on the cake, with a zinc oxide sunscreen you are also protected in water, but we do recommend reapplying after swimming!
